The Invisible Person
by James Laughlin

Life kept rolling her over
like a piece of driftwood

in the surf of an angry sea
she was intelligent and beau-

tiful and well-off she made
friends easily yet she wasn’t

able to put the pieces to-
gether into any recognizable

shape she wasn’t sure who
she wanted to be so she

ended up being no one in par-
ticular she made herself al-

most invisible she was the
person you loved so much who

really wasn’t there at all.

Zoe in Black Rock Creek, Germantown, Md. 1990.

An old, beat up color negative recently lith printed (1+13) on Arista.edu variable grade warmtone glossy just for kicks. Taken 20 years ago with my first 'real camera' - a Pentax k1000 (still have it but it's a pinhole camera now).

the gazing ball, 2010

either two things happened here: one, my safelight torch wasn't 'safe' and fogged my negative during development or two, my fixer was either beat or too weak [as there was also restriking silver ]... or perhaps both. either way, this is a quick inverted scan of a yellowish-sepia toned paper negative and i like the results. i'll get around to contact printing this tomorrow.

24th of april, 2010 'worldwide pinhole photography day' - wading in the Shenango.

I loaded up the film holders and went out to the lake - managed to expose most of them before the sky rumbled and opened up. This is one of my faves from today.

For some strange reason, today's storm brought back memories of a summer or two I spent living on Massanutten Mountain by the Shenandoah River outside Luray, Virginia and camping at the Front Royal commune. That was 17 or so years ago - funny how memories can turn from beautiful to bittersweet over time. I wonder where alla those folks are today...

Kennerdell Valley, Pennsylvania

On the right, Pennsylvania's beautiful Allegheny River. On the left, on that jutting rock, is a very dear-to-my-heart sister and fellow adventuress. Not bad for a 79mm pinhole, but I think I'll build a much deeper one for these kinds of landscapes - which is what I hope to shoot more of this summer.
